Eric Hysen - in New Zealand to speak at the the OS//OS conference is coming to GridAKL for a roundtable discussion.
Eric is a founding member of the United States Digital Service (U.S.D.S) and the Digital Service Lead at the Department of Homeland Security. The U.S.D.S is the White House’s very own startup. They pair up the country’s top technology talent with the best public servants, to improve the usefulness and reliability of the country’s most important digital services.
The team there are are using lessons learned by Silicon Valley and the private sector to improve services for veterans, immigrants, the disabled and others, creating a more awesome government along the way. They been quoted saying "We don't care about politics.”
Before joining the U.S.D.S Eric was Technical Program Manager, Civic Innovation at Google.
He launched 15 projects for the US 2012 election, including driving 23M+ polling place and ballot information lookups across Google and 100+ API developers, live election results visualizations, voter registration guide, and technical projects and integrations with the Democratic National Convention, Iowa and Nevada Republican Parties, Presidential Inaugural Committee, and CNN.
So he knows a fair bit about digital democracy. The event will be an informal roundtable discussion with morning tea.
